Blue & Green Stream

A small water stream originates from Lake Iidesjärvi and discreetly flows into Viinikanlahti, creating a narrow strip of vegetation along the waterfront. These natural features are described as vital elements for the new neighborhood.

The “Green+Blue Stream” is a master plan developed in collaboration with Blue 21 for the purpose of incorporating new neighborhoods into the existing green and blue spaces of Tampere, Finland. The primary objectives of the plan are to enhance the ecological aspects of the area, preserve the natural shorelines, and ensure public access to green areas and water bodies, keeping this natural balance intact by maintaining the existing shorelines, protecting the trees and celebrating the boundary where water meets land. The project includes a combination of (semi)floating and land-based neighborhoods, offering a diverse range of housing options with sustainable design elements.

The plan places a strong emphasis on promoting pedestrian, cyclist, and boat transportation, with centralized parking facilities and well-designed pathways to accommodate these modes of travel. The overall urban aesthetic of the development revolves around the use of wood as a predominant material, creating a seamless connection between indoor and outdoor spaces and fostering a sense of harmony with the surrounding natural landscape. Green and blue roofs are also integrated into the design, serving to enhance the ecological benefits of the buildings.

Ultimately, the “Green+Blue Stream” seeks to establish a cohesive relationship between the built environment and the natural surroundings, while simultaneously ensuring a high quality of life for the community. The project aims to create an ecologically sound and visually appealing neighborhood that prioritizes sustainability, accessibility, and the well-being of its residents.
