After adopting the “wood mindset” years ago, Waterstudio explored and extended the knowledge for the use of Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) in floating structures. This all results in this unique and innovative floating office tower designed for the city of Rotterdam, commissioned by developer, in collaboration with Hercules Floating Concrete . The 40 meter hight floating tower was revealed by VORM last spring during the MIPIM 2019.
Why CLT is the newest trend in floating architecture?
Mass timber products can be pre-assembled, Cross-laminated timber constructions are lighter than concrete structures. Wood is a renewable resource. Wood can
absorb tensions it has redundant load paths and has ductile connections and detailing.
